easy sushi recipe

sushi is easy and fun to make at home, and you can put all your favorite ingredients into your perfect custom roll — here’s how! i’ll be very honest and say that there’s definitely a reason why chefs spend a decade learning how to perfect sushi rice or cut raw fish like a boss, because it does make a difference. my husband and i first made it several years ago for valentine’s day as a way to avoid the restaurant craze and spend time together making a special meal, and now it has become a tradition for us every year. and we love it so much we can’t limit it to one day a year anymore, and make it on occasion for dinner. one of our favorites is a philly roll, with smoked salmon, cream cheese, avocado, and cucumber. or if you want to try something a little different, you can make korean kim bap. the one on the left below is thick and perfect for rolling sushi (this is the one i use). the one on the right is too flimsy. make sure you get seaweed specific for sushi-making, which it should state on the package. even at $28/lb, which seems like a lot, paying $14 for that much fish is certainly worth it, and dirt cheap if you ask me!

here is how i cut salmon for my sushi rolls. but philly-style rolls are my favorite): roll it up tightly, using a bamboo mat. if you don’t have one, you can sort of use parchment paper or plastic wrap, but you won’t be able to wrap it as tightly, so buy one if you plan to make sushi regularly. then use a sharp knife to cut the sushi roll into pieces. just make sure to use a sharp one! and delicious. the instructions on how to make it were so clear. it even included extra things like how to cut the raw fish and how to cook the rice. :)☺️ your step by step guide is wonderfully and carefully made. this one piece of informative learning is far beyond my expectations. i am entending on learning to make sushis and this made my day!

and of course, the best part of making your own sushi rolls is that you get to decide exactly what goes in them. and now that we have our assembly-line routine down, the two of us have found that we can make a big batch in just 30 minutes or so. this recipe itself is not hard, but it does require a bit of extra time to prep all of those ingredients and make the maki rolls. aside from produce and fish, most of the ingredients that you need to make basic maki rolls can be found in the southeast asian section of your grocery store. that said, though, whenever you are ready to up your game, the first piece of sushi equipment that i recommend purchasing is a basic bamboo sushi mat.

)  it will help you to roll the sushi much tighter and is quite easy to use. full instructions are included in the recipe below, but here is a quick overview of the steps… the best part about making homemade maki rolls is that you can customize your sushi exactly the way you like, so do some experimenting and use whatever ingredients and techniques you love best! )  i like to drizzle the mayo on top of the rolls just before serving, but you can also mix it in with the fillings instead. i still plan on making sushi rolls in the near future and wanted to pop over to see if you ever did a post on your sushi party. the directions are very easy to follow and the sushi itself takes very little time to make. and all the better with some seriously tasty food to bring us all together.
