have a wonderful day mary ann! just omit the lavender, and then i would up the freshly grated lemon zest to 2 teaspoons instead of the one teaspoon. thanks so much for stopping by to leave a comment and thanks so much for following along at the bhk! i have organic lavender in my herb garden and always looking for ways to bake with it. i have an upcoming bridal shower with a garden party theme so i think these would be perfect! i just made this recipe and something is wrong it’s impossible to spred without cracking… should i add more butter ? did you measure the flour correctly? you should spoon it in and level it off with a knife. when i first tried rolling the dough i was worried it was going to be crumbly but it came around 🙂 how did you measure your flour? and dampen your hands a bit when forming into a disc to get it to stick together better. you’d need to use about two tablespoons of the juice. you’ll need to be the judge. make sure to measure correctly and chill the dough before rolling.
perhaps no more so than by the lavender bushes that are in my yard. we are fortunate to be able to grow lavender year-round in southern california. (at least in your garden) the scent of food, whether good or bad, can heighten or detract from our eating pleasure. perhaps it’s because all of the senses come together, the smells wafting through the house, the taste, and even the visual. you can read more about cooking with lavender here. if you are not able to grow and dry fresh lavender in your garden, you can purchase organic lavender buds here, leftover lavender can be used in a tea or potpourri. my original recipe for shortbread comes from a glaswegian neighbor from the 1960s and uses powdered sugar in place of the cornstarch and sugar. it was in cups only. bear this in mind, that you will have the most success using a scale and there are so many affordable scales available, every kitchen should have one. this scale is small and under $12.
