now i get to make it for my 3-year-old. it was a fun treat to make when the snow falls! i just made this for my husband and myself. we used to do this as a kid as well, but only at the cabin (the snow was cleaner) we would use evaporated milk though, it was riche. my mom made snow ice cream all the time when i was a kid living in newfoundland because it snowed all the time.. she alway used evaporated milk and it was awesome. it was a quick and easy dessert for dinner with friends and no one believed it was snow. i needed to cut the sugar in half but otherwise was ok for what it was. and it was lots of fun with the kids! i also mix up the milk, sugar, and vanilla extract in a small bowl before adding to snow. made for a fun afternoon:) i used sugar in the raw and 1/2 & 1/2. i always heard about this as a kid, but in tx we never got much of a chance to try it.
this is how we made it when i was a child, and the sugar wouldnt dissolve, making for a gritty bowl of cream. i used confectioners sugar and mix it in well and put the milk mixture into the freezer for 1/2 hour to make it slushy then went outdoors for the snow! i add the vanilla and sugar to taste. i used a can of sweetened condensed milk in place of the milk and sugar. the kids loved it and we had a lot of fun with it. my mom made this for us kids when we were young, and now i love to share it with my nieces and nephews. i mixed the 2 kinds of milk together before pouring over the snow mixed with sugar and vanilla. we always made this when i was younger, and now for 3 years in a row i have been able to enjoy snow cream again! i used this recipe as it was the same i had always used, but i added a little blue food coloring to make it pretty as well as tasty. this is such a fun and easy treat for the kids! thanks to the review that suggested flavoring it with koolaid- we tried strawberry, and it was great!

no snow here but i blended some ice and it was delicious. we would all eat as much as we could and invariably some of us would have a sore throat the next day!!! this is some delightful looking and i know tasting snow cream! have a great week and thank you! we’re suppose to get some snow this week and i’m pretty sure my kiddos would like to help me make this. i guess we’re gonna need to find some shaved ice somewhere- here in houston we get less snow than most, lol! my mom made me this when i was little, and i used to make it for my kids. for that matter, i think it might be hard to find some snow here in florida. i’ll put little man in his bear hat from gap and bundle him and myself up and make a batch of this. although there is no snow here in houston but i could head over to the snoball shop and grab some shaved ice. i like to say my recipes are for the busy cook (you know who you are!)
