the other day i was craving a turkey sandwich for lunch and decided to make a turkey club. i used boar’s head turkey thinly sliced, my favorite turkey from the grocery store deli. for some twists on the classic, try my bento box turkey club roll ups and chicken club lettuce wrap sandwich. crispy bacon is the best part of a club. one of the easiest ways to cook bacon is in the oven. let bacon sit on paper towels for a few minutes to drain the grease. it traditionally has a third slice of bread in the middle with extra layers of meat, but i only used two slices to cut calories. since i only use two slices of bread, i also use less meat and mayo. i prefer using dave’s killer bread thin-sliced, which is whole grain and has fewer calories than regular bread. this sandwich is a guilt free way of eating the delicious combo of a tblt that is filled with flavor and nutrients. for the win! i’m not a big tomato fan so i sub in pickles, instead.
this is too funny–i just saw this posted this morning, but yesterday i was hit with an intense club craving and made them too! (clubs are in fact my favorite sandwiches, and i can get boars head at the deli a mile from my house which i love. i add an avocado and a smidge of cheese and oh boy. with mine i had chopped bacon made for meal prep so i just sprinkled some of that on it to get the taste of bacon for fewer points. went to deli purchased turkey meat – had all other ingredients on hand. thanks for the impromptu, easy sandwich suggestion for a start of summer on a saturday afternoon. not only am i a follower of skinny taste but my son and his fiancé are too! i use my home made multi grain bread (covid induced extra time!). so i feel good about serving this to my family!! thanks for all of your recipes and tips!! i mean, i love salt, but i’m trying to cut back and the salt in deli meat is really overwhelming. my food philosophy is to eat seasonal, whole foods and maintain good portion control (everything in moderation!
